SICK OF IT ALL | Aga Hairesis

Chances are by now you have been besieged by social media posts about the 2015 Black N Blue Bowl which was held on May 16th and 17th at Webster Hall in NYC. Links, Likes, Shares, You Tubes, Instagrams, Tweets, and all other coverage step aside as In Effect Hardcore wants to drop our two cents in as well…

Where do we even start off? If your new to the game (first off… welcome) the Black ‘N Blue Bowl goes back to the late 80’s where the shows were held at The Ritz on 11th Street in NYC… and the show actually started off being called the Super Bowl Of Hardcore. Over time things sputtered but the concept was revived in 2005 by Black ‘N Blue Productions and in 2008 the name was officially switched from the Super Bowl Of Hardcore to the Black ‘N Blue Bowl. The current location where Webster Hall is today is actually that old Ritz club so the connection from yesterday to today is very real and this is the biggest NYHC weekend of the year by far. Many people still refer to the show as the Super Bowl much like many NY Mets fans still call their new stadium “Shea”… but that’s a New Yorker’s take on things and bringing up baseball in NY can definitely cause some division so let’s not go there right now considering this hardcore thing all near and dear to us is all about the unity…right?

“Hardcore music has been instrumental in my life and I’m excited about getting on stage with Gavin again,” says Burn frontman Chaka Malik. “Much respect to the folks at Black and Blue for the work they’ve been doing. Keeping a viable platform for bands and people in the culture to experience what’s been a big part of many of our lives is really important. The old Ritz is a fitting venue for Burn to bring the energy we were known for in the past.”

Says Burn guitarist Gavin Van Vlack: “We’ve been approached to do this for well over a decade and it never felt like it was the right time. Finally the stars have aligned at a time when it all feels so right; where the pure desire that Chaka and I have to play these songs has come to fruit. It’s an honor to work with Black N Blue as well—they’ve put so much blood and sweat into supporting this culture of ours.  Excited would be a massive understatement about how I feel about doing this.”

Black N’ Blue Bowl 2015 Sneak Peek 3 Featuring CANDIRIA, DAVE SMALLEY, MADBALL + More

In the wake of the previously announced bands confirmed for this years Black N’ Blue Bowl, the 3rd announcement brings news of yet another long-awaited and highly anticipated reunion from Brooklyn’s hardest and grooviest, Candiria.

We caught up with Candiria guitarist John LaMacchia, who had this to say about their appearance at this years BNB Bowl taking place Saturday, May 16th and Sunday, May 17th at Webster Hall in New York City;

“The band is extremely excited that this is finally happening. Candiria has been asked to play the Black and Blue Bowl every year for the past four or so and each year we’ve been bummed that we’ve had to say no for one reason or another. They always put together such a great lineup and we’ve always wanted to be a part of it.  Now the band is back together and we couldn’t think of a better way to kick things off than to share the stage with some great bands at the BnB Bowl this May.”

In addition to a Candiria reunion, also announced are reunions from Crumbsuckers and Agents Of Man alongside Sick Of It All, ExpireWisdom In Chains, Bitter EndSuburban Scum, King NineHeavy Chains, and Mizery to mention a few.

Black N’ Blue Bowl 2015 Sneak Peek 2 Featuring SICK OF IT ALL, AGENTS OF MAN + More

In addition to the previously announced bands from last week, this week brings news with the addition of New York Hardcore stalwarts and veterans SICK OF IT ALL to the line-up’s rank. Having been no strangers to not only the current Black N’ Blue Bowl, but its preceding Superbowl of Hardcore — drummer and all-around-great-guy, Armand Majidi weighs in on the bands appearance at this years event, taking place Saturday, May 16th and Sunday, May 17th at Webster Hall in New York City;

We’re psyched to announce that we’ll be playing the Black N’ Blue Bowl in 2015, along with Expire, Bitter End, 100 Demons, King Nine, Freedom, Rude Awakening, a very anticipated Crumbsuckers reunion and many more to be announced. Let’s hear it for the guys who put this show together every year. They’ve kept hardcore alive in New York in a special way. If it wasn’t for them, and their continuous ability to do big shows in big venues, I hate to say it, but this city might not be as friendly towards our kind of music as we would like. Back when the first “Hardcore Superbowl” was done in the late eighties, it was great because of the classic line-up of iconic NYHC bands, BUT it was put together by leeches who had no love for the scene or the future of this music. Now, it’s put together by a group of guys who live the music, and live the scene. They pour their hearts and souls into it, and it stands as one of the premier hardcore festivals in the world. Other fests suffer from being directed too much at a particular generation, or being too reliant on one sub genre to draw an audience, but the Black N’ Blue Bowl has a special ability to give every part of this scene a voice, an audience, and a validation. Kudos, boys.

In addition to Sick Of It All, also announced is a reunion from Agents Of Man, as well as appearances from Wisdom In Chains, Suburban Scum, Heavy Chains, and Mizery.
